Why hutspot?
In 1574, Leiden was liberated after a long siege by the Spanish. The city was saved when the Watergeuzen broke through, bringing herring and white bread to the starving people. According to tradition, the Spanish left behind a pot of food in their haste – hutspot! 🥕🥔
